The Donissan de Citran family ruled this estate in the 13th century until 1832, when the last heir had to sell the estate to Mr. Clauzel. He defined the estate boundaries and created Château Citran prominence among the Medoc estates.

The Miailhe family bought the property in 1945 and undrwent renovation until 1987. Then, a Japanese group acquired the property and made major investments. In 1996, the Merlaut family, a major actor of the Bordeaux wine industry, took over Château Citran. During this period quality improved. Château is designated with a historical monument heritage in 2012.

 Tasting notes & score:

  • Jancis Robinson- 16.5/20

"Dark purplish crimson. Neat, focused aroma. Blackberry compote. Then a sweet start and very polished tannins with a dry but not drying finish. Successful. In a slightly minor key." Drinking Window: 2025-2038
  • Decanter-90-/100

"A super-reliable, good quality name in the Haut-Médoc category. Ground coffee flavours run right through the extremely elegant black fruits, liquorice and charcoal, with a lovely seam of freshness. The tannins are just a touch too solid, but it yet again shows the brilliant quality in this vintage at different levels. The blend is 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc." Drinking Window: 2025-2040
