Chablis Climats/vineyards lie along the river Serein (“serene”). Vines began to grow here during the Roman era and by the12th century, the Cistercian monks from the abbey of Pontigny developed its cultivation.
The name Fourchaume may come from "four à chaux" (lime kiln) or the word "fourche" (fork), referring to a fork in the road.

The Pinson family has been in Chablis over 400 years. The family’s most important figure, Louis Pinson, led the domaine in 1940 to become one of the first properties in Chablis to sell directly to the public.
Louis Pinson decided to retire in 1983 having made some fabulous chablis wines. His great grand-daughter, Charlène, along with her father, Laurent and her uncle Christophe have now taken over to run the estate.

Blend: 100% chardonnay (known locally as “Beaunois”).

AOC: Chablis

The AOC Chablis status was created in January 1938, thus confirming the excellent qualities of this dry white wine

Terroir & Location:Fourchaume has always had a special complex and intense taste. it distinguishes itself by its elegance, its finesse and above all its unique quality.

Fourchaume lies to the north along the right bank of river Serein. Its west and southwest exposure make it a sun-drenched terroir. Vineyard soils are predominantly brown clay and only slightly stony. Most of them are fairly deep and well-draining.

The main substrate is Jurassic limestone (specifically, Kimmeridgian limestone) laid down some 150 million years ago. The rock contains deposits of tiny fossilised oyster shells which remind us that Bourgogne once lay beneath a warm ocean.
