Domaine Pinson-Chablis Premier Cru-La Foret 2018

Size
"La Forêt" Climat(vineyard) of Chablis Premier Cru used to be a forest.
The word "forest" was used as early as 1367, even though the vines had already taken over from the trees. As often the case in French, the "es" of "forest" was later replaced by "ê".
The Pinson family has been in Chablis over 400 years. The family’s most important figure, Louis Pinson, led the domaine in 1940 to become one of the first properties in Chablis to sell directly to the public.
Louis Pinson decided to retire in 1983 having made some fabulous chablis wines. His great grand-daughter, Charlène, along with her father, Laurent and her uncle Christophe have now taken over to run the estate.

Blend: 100% chardonnay (known locally as “Beaunois”).

AOC: Chablis

The AOC Chablis status was created in January 1938, thus confirming the excellent qualities of this dry white wine

Terroir & Location: This vineyard is located on left bank of river Serein with south and east exposure which provides some exceptional sunlight, simultaneously, close to the Grand Cru Blanchot. Forêts bears the hallmarks of the poor Kimmeridgian soils of the left bank. Wines have fresh fruitiness and intense with balanced minerality.

The main substrate is Jurassic limestone (specifically, Kimmeridgian limestone) laid down some 150 million years ago. The rock contains deposits of tiny fossilised oyster shells which remind us that Bourgogne once lay beneath a warm ocean.
